Title: Art Director
Company: Riot Games Inc.
Location: Los Angeles, California, United States
Sebastian d’Avila Reeve, art director at Riot Games Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements and leadership in game development and entertainment.
Mr. Reeve has carved a distinguished career in the games industry, currently serving as an art director on “Teamfight Tactics” at Riot Games Inc. since 2021. In this role, he leads a team of approximately 50 artists, managing a multi-disciplinary team at the Los Angeles-based campus in Santa Monica. His responsibilities include overseeing visual design, 3D, VFX, thematic development and technical art for the IP while his team builds out sets for “Teamfight Tactics,” an auto battler featuring beloved characters from “League of Legends,” which stands as the world’s largest PC strategy game. Before this position, he was the visual design lead for “League of Legends” from 2019 until 2021. During that time, he honed his skills in directing UI projects and managing smaller creative teams across the organization.
Before leadership at Riot, Mr. Reeve was a UI artist at Ubisoft, where he worked at Massive Entertainment on “Tom Clancy’s The Division.” During his time at Massive in Sweden, he worked on screens and menus for the game and developed the UI Style Guide, a standard for teams and studios in different countries to share to develop features under a single vision and style rapidly. His time before Massive working on diegetic and 2.5D displays on “Watch Dogs” at Ubisoft Reflections also prepared him for interactive world-based UI and the augmented reality systems for which “The Division” is well known.
Laying the groundwork for his professional achievements, Mr. Reeve’s creative background started with growing up with two artists for parents and an international family across England and Brazil. He was a full scholarship recipient from the Glassell School of Art in Houston and a big music fan from an early age. At Texas State University, he competed twice in the American Advertising Federation and took the team to nationals for the AOL Advertising Competition in 2008. After an art direction internship at Lopez Negrete in 2009, he graduated from Texas State with a Bachelor of Arts in communication design.
After his undergraduate studies, Mr. Reeve worked in London and studied for a Master of Arts in graphic branding and identity from the University of the Arts London LCC in 2012. During this time, he began a career in game development at Electronic Arts, which led him down a pathway that would ultimately lead him to art leadership in interactive media and game development.
Looking ahead, Mr. Reeve aims to grow with TFT and expand his impact across Riot Games, while personally expanding his influence through art, music, and technology to one day even design interactive systems that are immersive and fun outside of games. “The way we interact with a game right now is confined by the four walls of the screen, but diegetic games like “The Division” force us to think outside of those boundaries. I look forward to tech advancing like that off the screen.” On a personal level, he hopes to bring his family together from their current locations across the globe while continuing to establish roots in California.
