Roseline Marie Young, Retired President at Rose Line Art, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements and leadership in the Art and Education.
Ms. Young established a distinguished career in the arts, most notably as the president of Rose Line Art for 20 years. In this capacity, she dedicated herself to advancing the field of weaving and wearable art, taking on one commission at a time and actively participating in weavers’ meetings. Ms. Young’s leadership at Rose Line Art was marked by a commitment to craftsmanship and community engagement, as she continued to create unique pieces and foster connections within the artistic community.
Before her tenure at Rose Line Art, Ms. Young taught art and weaving in both New Orleans, Louisiana, and Kenosha, Wisconsin. During her teaching career, she inspired students through hands-on projects and creative exploration.
Possessing a rich educational background, Ms. Young completed a Bachelor of Arts with a minor in English at the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1962. She soon earned a master’s degree in art, with a focus on weaving and sculpture, from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1965. Ms. Young’s academic background laid a strong foundation for her career in the arts. The comprehensive education she received enabled her to approach both teaching and artistic creation with depth and versatility.
Ms. Young is an active member of several industry organizations, including Weavers of Char-Lee, a guild based in Fort Myers, Florida, that welcomes individuals of all skill levels interested in weaving and spinning to participate. She is also affiliated with the Handweavers Guild of America. This organization brings together weavers, spinners, dyers, basketmakers, fiber artists and educators, offering educational programs, conferences and a quarterly publication to its members. These affiliations have provided Ms. Young with opportunities for professional development and collaboration with fellow artists.
Throughout her tenure in the industry, Ms. Young has derived significant satisfaction from undertaking large-scale endeavors, such as a collaborative project with students that resulted in the construction of a 100-foot fence. Her teaching philosophy emphasized perseverance and the joy of accomplishment, values she instilled in her students every day.
A highlight of Ms. Young’s professional journey also included the creation of a 24-foot tapestry, which was initially displayed at the New Orleans International Airport for several years. This significant work was later relocated to the Juvenile Justice Department in New Orleans following renovations at the airport. The tapestry stands as a testament to Ms. Young’s skill and vision as an artist, and she regards it as one of her most meaningful achievements.
Born in New Orleans, Ms. Young enjoys sailing and weaving during her leisure time. She is also dedicated to promoting the inclusion of senior citizens within her Cape Coral community by showcasing their creative work in local venues.
Ms. Young attributes her success to perseverance, happiness derived from creative work, and the enjoyment she finds in involving others, especially children, in her projects. Throughout her tenure in the industry, she has valued the impact she has had on others through collaborative projects. She considers it an honor when participants return to acknowledge their contributions. Although physical limitations have altered some of her plans, Ms. Young continues to find fulfillment through artistic pursuits. She hopes her legacy will be defined by inspiring others and fostering creativity across generations.
