Ms. Marsh has established a distinguished career as an international performer, educator and advocate for vocal arts. Since 2013, she has served as an adjunct professor at Hunter College in New York, where she teaches and mentors aspiring vocalists. Apart from her work in the classroom, Ms. Marsh has been influential in numerous other capacities. Since 1994, she has contributed to vocal forums and vocal pedagogy programs at San Francisco State University, sharing her insights with students on the West Coast. Her involvement with the Metropolitan Opera Guild extends back to 2007, when she began presenting lectures and master classes on Bel Canto, Verdi, Puccini, Wagner, Mozart, Strauss and Russian repertoire. Ms. Marsh also co-created the “Masterly Singing Series,” leading workshops and panel discussions that have enriched the professional development of countless singers.
Since 2008, Ms. Marsh has served as an artistic adviser and program consultant for the Metropolitan Opera Guild at Lincoln Center, shaping educational initiatives and programming. Her role as the mistress of ceremonies and lecturer for Wagner’s Ring, Bel Canto, Verdi and Puccini at the Metropolitan Opera Membership Lecture-Singer Events at Lincoln Center began in 2011 and continues to the present day. In this capacity, Ms. Marsh has shared her deep knowledge of operatic literature with both performers and audiences.
Also, since 2011, Ms. Marsh has led master classes, language diction classes, and master class showcases for the Metropolitan Opera Guild’s Pre-College Singer Preparation program at Lincoln Center. She has also contributed to the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center in New York as a recitalist, master class leader and instructor for professional pedagogy proseminars since 2011. Her performances have included opera composers in song recitals as well as Advent and Christmas recitals.
Beginning in 2012, Ms. Marsh has coordinated the Jasa Opera Course during the Metropolitan Opera season at John Jay College in New York, providing specialized instruction and guidance to students interested in opera performance.
Among her former professional endeavors, Ms. Marsh was recognized as a soprano and master teacher at the CUNY Graduate Center in 2014. She has also appeared as both a singer and master of ceremonies on international radio and television broadcasts throughout her career. Notably, Ms. Marsh was featured on Episode 47 of the Metropolitan Opera Guild Podcast, highlighting her influence in the field.
Ms. Marsh holds a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from Oberlin College and Conservatory. Her academic training provided a strong foundation for her artistry and teaching philosophy.
Ms. Marsh’s creative output includes several notable publications and recordings, including “Gifts,” a collection of Advent and Christmas recital songs available on iTunes through Apple Inc., “Spirit Be Joyful,” a recital anthology published by Oxford University Press, and “Treasures,” featuring Schubert, Wolf & Goethe’s worldly recital songs on iTunes.
A career that has been marked by historic achievements, Ms. Marsh was the first singer to win the gold medal in voice at Moscow’s International Tchaikovsky Competition. This milestone notably brought her international acclaim. Following this achievement, Ms. Marsh was invited by President Lyndon Johnson to perform at the White House, an honor that preceded years of touring major opera houses and concert venues worldwide.
Throughout her tenure, Ms. Marsh has received numerous accolades recognizing her contributions to music and culture. In addition to her gold medal from the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia, she was honored with the New York Handel Medaille by the Mayor and City of New York for exceptional contributions to music. Other distinctions included inclusion in International Who’s Who in Classical Music, recognition by Mademoiselle Magazine as the Woman of the Year, a Presidential Honor Award of Distinction from the White House, an Achievement Award from Time Life, and an Achievement Award from U.S. News & World Report.
