Mr. Varghese has made a name for himself as an award-winning artist and producer, recognized for his innovative approach to instrumental rock guitar and his commitment to empowering fellow musicians. Since 2014, he has served as the founder and producer of Verge Studios in Seattle, Washington, where he has cultivated a welcoming environment for artists seeking high-quality audio and video production.

Under Mr. Varghese’s leadership, Verge Studios has become known for its comprehensive mixing and editing services, as well as its dedication to affordability and artistic freedom. In November 2023, he expanded his vision by launching Spotlight Studio, an intimate venue designed to encourage artists to share their music and create professional videos at accessible rates. This initiative reflects Mr. Varghese’s ongoing mission to help musicians reach broader audiences and attract industry attention.

Throughout his tenure at Verge Studios, Mr. Varghese has played a pivotal role in the careers of nearly 300 artists, many of whom have gone on to achieve recognition on platforms such as Netflix and through Grammy nominations. His expertise in videography, audio recording, music production and technical production has set a high standard within the industry. Among Mr. Varghese’s most notable achievements was a 2022 Grammy nomination for the album “Pangea.”

Before establishing Verge Studios, Mr. Varghese built a robust career in technology. From 2011 to 2018, he was a senior software engineer at Placed, a technology startup where he further developed his technical acumen. During this period, he secured two patents. One of these patents was for an inference pipeline system and method in 2014, while another was a system and method for data collection to validate location data in 2015. These innovations underscored Mr. Varghese’s ability to bridge creative artistry with advanced technological solutions.

Between 2007 and 2011, Mr. Varghese contributed as a software development engineer at Microsoft Corporation, where he honed skills that would later inform his work in studio management and production technology. His earlier roles included serving as technical lead at Marchex from 2005 to 2007, software developer and database/system administrator at the graduate school at his alma mater, the University of Southern California, between 2004 and 2005, software developer at Sallie Mae Solutions from 2001 to 2003 and software developer at Tata Infotech between 1999 and 2000.

Mr. Varghese’s journey into music began long before he transitioned into production. As the founder and guitarist of Mixed Fruit Jam from 1996 to 2003, he performed extensively across India before relocating to the United States. His experiences as a performer profoundly influenced Mr. Varghese’s understanding of the evolving music landscape and inspired him to pivot toward recording and production as musical trends shifted.

Highly educated, Mr. Varghese earned a Bachelor of Engineering in mechanical engineering from RV College of Engineering in Bangalore, India, in 1999 and a Master of Science in computer science from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles in 2005. This combination of technical education and artistic passion has been instrumental in shaping his approach to studio management and innovation in production.

Mr. Varghese has been an active member of the Recording Academy since 2015 and has served on its producers and engineers board for five years. He also supports various nonprofit organizations dedicated to advancing the arts.

In recognition of his professional work, Mr. Varghese has garnered numerous accolades beyond his 2022 Grammy nomination. In addition to winning the Grand Prize at The John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2019, he received multiple honors from the Global Music Awards, including the Hollywood Music in Media Award in 2015, Emerging Artist recognition in 2015, and an Outstanding Achievement for Song and Music Video for “No Time to Lose” in 2019. Moreover, in 2020, Verge Studios was honored with the Best Music Video award at the Akademia Music Awards.

Mr. Varghese credits his success to both his creative drive and two decades of experience in software engineering, which have enabled him to develop systems capable of managing large-scale projects efficiently. This advantage has distinguished Verge Studios from traditional facilities.

Continually drawing inspiration from his mother’s talent as a piano player, Mr. Varghese also values the steadfast support of his family, particularly his wife, who works in software, and their daughter. Looking ahead, he aims to establish a larger venue capable of hosting live events while returning focus to performing his own music alongside supporting other artists’ creative journeys.
