Ms. Di Maio’s most significant tenure was in public service, devoting 25 years to the Miami Police Department in Miami, Florida, from 1979 to 2004. Hired as a technician, she advanced to the rank of police officer in 1981, where she remained until retirement. During her tenure, Ms. Di Maio demonstrated resilience and adaptability in a demanding environment.
Lauded for her military achievements, Ms. Di Maio served as a communications specialist in the U.S. Army. Rising to the rank of platoon leader, she developed expertise in communications and cryptography, skills that laid the foundation for her later achievements in public service.
Ms. Di Maio’s academic background included earning a bachelor’s degree from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. Her commitment to personal growth was further evidenced by her pursuit of advanced training in artificial intelligence (AI). Over the past two years, she has immersed herself in the field, earning 10 certificates and completing an intensive AI boot camp certificate in 2024. Ms. Di Maio’s dedication to mastering new AI applications reflects her excitement for innovation and her drive to remain at the forefront of technological advancements in the arts.
Active in her field, Ms. Di Maio is a member of the Treasure Coast Photography Club, the Fort Pierce Art Club, the Port St. Lucie Cultural Alliance Club, the A.E. Backus Museum & Gallery and, among others, the Professional Artist Association. She also maintains a long-standing involvement with charitable organizations, including juvenile diabetes drives through the Miami Police Department for over 15 years, donating driftwood art to benefit Alzheimer’s charities, supporting the Boys and Girls Club, and contributing to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
Ms. Di Maio’s creative accomplishments have been recognized with numerous awards, including a Letter of Recognition from Through the Eye of the Camera at the A.E. Backus Museum & Gallery in 2024, a First Place Photography Award in the black-and-white category at a local museum in 2025, and recognition as Artist of the Month from another local gallery in 2026. Ms. Di Maio has also secured over 40 additional awards in photography contests.
Throughout her life, Ms. Di Maio has attributed her success to resilience and unwavering determination. Her drive to overcome obstacles is fueled by a desire to prove doubters wrong and transform challenges into motivation for growth.
