Among other honors, Mr. Sands received the Chevalier Award from the French government, an esteemed honor acknowledging his role as a musician and ambassador of music. He also received Man of the Year honors from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in 2011, won a Recognition Award from The Links Incorporated Organization in 2024, and was honored with the Duke Ellington Fellow Award from Yale University in 2025.
