Ms. Bennett began her professional journey at the Atlanta Journal from 1965 to 1970 as a reporter and feature writer, immediately following her graduation from college. Ms. Bennett’s educational background laid the foundation for her achievements. She earned an associate degree at Brevard College and a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The discipline instilled by her disabled veteran father, who operated a small bread store, shaped Ms. Bennett’s strong work ethic and sense of purpose from an early age. A Veterans Administration scholarship facilitated by her father allowed her to attend university at a pivotal time. Graduating with a published work from a speechwriting course notably led directly to multiple job offers upon completion of her degree.
