Title: Artist and Musician
Location: Montello, Wisconsin, United States
Steve Lentz, artist and musician, has been recognized by Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in progressive rock songwriting and recording.
Distinguished by his remarkable blend of musical innovation and visual artistry. Mr. Lentz has found much success as an artist and musician who has operated out of his independent music studio since 1998. Collaborating alongside Brad Martins, this venture has served as a creative hub where he writes, produces and records original progressive rock music, performs guitar and lead vocals, and authors most of his own lyrics. His expertise in progressive rock songwriting and recording is widely acknowledged, reflecting years of disciplined practice and a commitment to excellence.
As an artist and musician since 1975, Mr. Lentz has continually expanded his repertoire. He began playing guitar at age seven and was performing paid gigs by eighteen, dedicating years to honing his craft in cover bands before transitioning to original compositions. In 1998, the establishment of his home recording studio marked a pivotal moment in his professional journey, enabling him to release independent music that has since reached audiences worldwide. What sets Mr. Lentz apart in the field is his hands-on approach; he manages every aspect of his work personally, including publishing, distribution and recording. This meticulous attention to detail distinguishes his output from that of many peers.
Mr. Lentz’s creative pursuits extend beyond music into the realms of snow sculpting, straw sculpting and leather carving. As a snow sculptor, he has completed more than one hundred sculptures at national and international events over several decades. His most notable achievement in this field was creating a snow sculpture with his children at an international event in Breckenridge—a milestone that stands as a testament to both his artistic vision and family collaboration. Mr. Lentz was also presented with a Silver Award at the state snow sculpting competition in Wisconsin and has received multiple People’s Choice Awards for his work.
Mr. Lentz’s involvement with straw sculpting began after participating in an international show at Chicago’s Navy Pier in 2017. This work led to invitations to compete nationally in Illinois soft sculpting events where he garnered further accolades. In addition to these achievements, Mr. Lentz has been honored for his rare specialization in leather art within Wisconsin, a discipline that opened doors to local art shows early in his career.
Whether as a musician, snow or straw sculptor or leather carver, Mr. Lentz’s dedication to managing all facets of creation himself remains constant. His body of work is characterized by originality and precision, earning extensive media coverage for both his visual art and music. A prolific composer as well as a performer, he has published approximately ninety songs on streaming services, a milestone he considers equally significant to his accomplishments in sculpture. Mr. Lentz attributes much of this success to discipline and perseverance developed over years of self-directed learning and collaboration with like-minded individuals who share his passion for creative expression.
To support his professional ambitions, Mr. Lentz earned a bachelor’s degree in dairy science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The analytical skills acquired through this academic background have contributed to the methodical approach he brings to both music production and visual artistry. His professional development has been shaped primarily through observation rather than formal mentorships; he studied the works of others independently before developing his own distinctive style through persistent experimentation.
Beyond his primary endeavors, Mr. Lentz is deeply committed to civic engagement within his community. Drawing inspiration from formative experiences as a youth member of 4-H programs, he now volunteers with local 4-H initiatives and county fair organizations as both chaperone and mentor. His longstanding service has been celebrated with multiple volunteer awards from the county fair board, including Volunteer of the Year and Friends of the Fair honors. Mr. Lentz has also been recognized with multiple People’s Choice Awards for snow sculpting and a Silver Award at the state level in Wisconsin.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Lentz intends to continue pursuing both music and art for as long as possible. Motivated by an enduring passion for creativity, he remains committed to releasing new works with collaborators while maintaining exposure for both musical compositions and sculptures. For those aspiring to enter similar fields, he emphasizes the importance of self-education across all aspects of one’s craft from publishing to distribution and encourages perseverance despite setbacks or criticism from others. Ultimately, Mr. Lentz hopes that when people encounter his name they experience a profound connection with his art, one that resonates emotionally long after hearing his music or viewing his sculptures.
