Matthew M. Weinman, a publisher and professional musician, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the musical arts.

An accomplished musician, Mr. Weinman has distinguished himself over the course of more than three and a half decades as a professional composer, performer and specialist in music education. Favoring such Renaissance-era stringed instruments as the lute, the baroque guitar, the vihuela, and the theorbo, his knowledge of the musical arts largely resides in 16th century compositional forms. Additionally, he has released a wealth of written works through his publishing company, Turtels & Twins Press, including “The Renaissance Fake Book,” “The Baroque Musician’s Book of Grounds,” and “Popular Elizabethan Lute Music,” among others. Likewise dedicated to spreading the best practices in composition, Mr. Weinman offers music lessons to students in the New York Metropolitan Area and New Jersey.

Mr. Weinman’s interest in music has its origins in 1986, when he was first learning how to play the classical guitar. After buying his first lute record, however, he cultivated a great passion for the instrument and went on to study with such figures as Pat O’Brien, Paul O’Dette, Dan Cataneo, Maria Rojas, David Loeb, and Robert Cuckson. After attaining a Bachelor of Music in historical performance and music theory at the Mannes College of Music in 1995, he subsequently undertook coursework in music teacher education at Columbia University, where he joined the society of Kappa Delta Pi and earned a Master of Arts in 1997. To remain aware of developments in the field, he maintains his membership with the Lute Society of America. Looking toward the future, Mr. Weinman hopes to further expand his music education endeavors and become recognized as one of the top luthiers in his region.
