She began her career as a professor of communications and theatre at Waubonsee Community College from 1978 to 2009. Dr. Boundas Bakalis continued her career as a director at Curtain Up Classroom from 2005 to 2010. She established herself as a playwright, performer, and professional speaker in Athens, Greece in 2017 before transitioning to a role as a public speaking coach at Curtain Up Classroom in Glen Ellyn, Illinois since 2019. In her creative capacities, she researches playwriting projects and acts in theatrical performances. She is currently focused on a play about Mary Todd Lincoln.
Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Boundas Bakalis pursued an education at De Paul University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in theatre in 1967. She continued her academic efforts at Northern Illinois University, graduating with a Master of Arts in communication and theatre in 1975 and a Doctor of Education in adult education in 2001. She holds certifications in acting from London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, theatre studies from the Athens Centre, and as an Illinois teacher of sixth through twelfth grades from the Illinois State Board of Education.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Dr. Boundas Bakalis has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She has sat on the board of directors of the Glen Ellyn Historical Society since 2013. She found success as the author of “La Maria: The Life and Loves of Maria Callas,” published in Maria Callas Magazine, “Breaking the Boredom Barrier,” published in New Teacher Advocate, and co-authored “Who Do You Think You Are? Interpersonal Interactions,” published by Pearson College Division.
In addition to her primary vocation, Dr. Boundas Bakalis remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society since 2001. In light of her impressive undertakings, she has accrued several accolades throughout her career. She received a certificate from the Oxford Round Table for delivering a presentation.
