With more than 40 years of experience in fostering the arts and promoting cultural heritage to his credit, Dr. Semowich has excelled as the owner and operator of Semowich Fine Arts in Albany, New York since 1982. Beyond his responsibilities in this post, he has been additionally active with the Free and Accepted Masons as an organist with Wadsworth Lodge 417 since 2000, an organist with the Ancient Temple Masonic Lodge since 1999, and the grand organist for the Grand Lodge of New York since 2022. He further served as a freelance carillonneur since 1995, a substitute church organist since 2000, the president of De Laetsburg Press since 2014, an associate minister for Interfaith Temple since 2014, and a carillonneur with Riverside Church since 2019. Additionally, Dr. Semowich has found success as a private art dealer and author since 1980, with notable written works including “Rensselaer” in 2013 and “A History of Interfaith” in 2020.

Dr. Semowich began his career as a curator for the Susquehanna County Historical Society in 1976 before working as a caseworker for Broome County from 1977 to 1980, an IM specialist for the State of New York from 1980 to 1996, a teacher for the Chautauqua Institution from 1988 to 1989, a tutor for Empire State College from 1988 to 1990, and the director of music for the Riverside Community Unitarian Universalist Congregation from 1999 to 2004. He subsequently contributed as the executive director for the Albany Center Gallery from 2004 to 2005 and the historian for the City of Rensselaer, New York from 2006 to 2013. He has additionally offered his expertise as a curator for the Museum of Prints and Printmaking at the Print Club of Albany, the vice president of the Rensselaer City Arts Council, the chairman of the art committee at the Empire State Aerosciences Museum, and the founder and president of the Friends of Albany City Carillon. Dr. Semowich is also deeply dedicated to the performing arts, having had musical compositions published in the Albany Carillon Book and performed music throughout the United States.

To support his professional ambitions, Dr. Semowich earned a Bachelor of Arts in humanities and fine arts from Binghamton University in 1971, a Master of Fine Arts in painting and sculpture from The Catholic University of America in 1972, and a Doctor of Philosophy in art history from the International College in Los Angeles in 1981. In addition to his formal academic achievements, he accrued a variety of certifications, including a Certificate in Auctioneering from Emporium Auction School in 1991 and a Certificate for Interfaith Ministry from the New Seminary for Interfaith Studies in 2014. Dr. Semowich has also been licensed as a ground instructor and airplane pilot with commercial, instrument, and multi-engine ratings from the Federal Aviation Administration since 1977. Looking toward the future, Dr. Semowich hopes to complete a book of interfaith sermons, reflecting his enduring commitment to both art and spirituality.
