Dr. Prigot has established a notable career spanning five decades in the arts and developmental psychology. Since becoming self-employed in 2016, she has been actively engaged in imparting her knowledge to students, fostering artistic growth and appreciation for the arts as an instructor at various locations, including Avalon Estates. Additionally, Dr. Prigot has been serving as both a painter and editor of painting manuscripts at Prigot Studio, where she utilizes her expertise in still life and portraiture to teach weekly classes and oversee a variety of painting projects.
Among her previous roles in this sector, Dr. Prigot gained experience as an instructor at BellinghamART in Bellingham, Washington, where she guided students in developing their artistic abilities from 2004 to 2012. Specializing in oil and pastel painting, she instructed intermediate and advanced students on a part-time basis.
Dr. Prigot began her academic career in 1994 as an assistant professor at Iona College in New York. There, she provided in-class college instruction to undergraduate and graduate students in courses including child development, lifespan development, introductory psychology, quantitative methods (statistics) and experimental psychology, among others. Dr. Prigot taught on campus until 1998.
During that same time frame, Dr. Prigot was a research associate at St. John’s University in New York from 1990 to 1994 and again from 1998 to 2002, where she participated in developmental psychology research. Among other professional opportunities, she applied her editorial expertise to digital platforms as a web content researcher, editor and writer for America’s Favorite Media in 2013. Dr. Prigot also contributed her analytical skills as a research analyst at Applied Research Northwest from 2013 to 2014, where she engaged in data-driven projects.
Dr. Prigot’s academic background is extensive. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and English from Queens College in 1980, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in developmental and child psychology from Stony Brook University in 1988. Returning to Queens College years later while working full time, Dr. Prigot earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting in 2000, a decision inspired by her mother’s encouragement and her artistic background. She also completed four years of part-time study at the Art Students League in Manhattan, further refining her skills.
Distinguished by over 25 conference presentations delivered locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, Dr. Prigot’s career has been recognized for her leadership and service. She has also contributed to scholarly works, appearing in journals such as Infant Behavior and Development, Infancy, The Journal of Genetic Psychology, and Advances in Infancy Research for her expertise.
Dr. Prigot has maintained membership in various professional and civic organizations, including the National League of American Pen Women and the board of the Florida chapter of the Women’s National Book Association. She also served as the president of Plein Air Washington Artists from 2013 to 2014, as the marketing and statistics chair for the Whatcom Artist Studio Tour between 2006 and 2012, and as the president of the Whatcom Art Guild in 2004.
As an artist, Dr. Prigot’s creative output encompasses a wide range of projects and publications. Since 1998, she has produced numerous contemporary realism oil paintings and drawings. She has also developed many abstract works, including “Images of the Written” in 2012 and “Cloudscapes” in 2010. In 2019, she ventured into creating fused glass jewelry. Dr. Prigot’s collaborative and solo exhibitions have notably included “The Life of Funny Fish,” “Large Abstracts” and “TransMedia Triptychs” with Larry Mansfield.
Dr. Prigot’s artistic excellence has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Mayor’s Art Award from the City of Bellingham in 2009, multiple First-Place Honors in oils from the Whatcom Art Guild’s Art by the Lake Exhibit, and several Blue Ribbon awards from the Northwest Fair in Lynden, Washington. However, she is most proud of maintaining a long-standing presence in the sciences while simultaneously pursuing her passion for fine art. Dr. Prigot’s goal is to continue advancing as a painter while sharing her expertise with students. She derives fulfillment from nurturing the next generation of artists and remains dedicated to both her creative practice and her educational endeavors.
