With many years of experience to his credit, Mr. Lauria has excelled as the owner of Vince Lauria Studios, through which he records and composes music, while also teaching piano and orchestral writing. In addition to this position, he has been additionally active as a teacher at the Dick Grove School of Music, a technical adviser for Guitar World Magazine and an independent music blogger discussing music theory, practice techniques, and other areas of music composition and performance. Moreover, Mr. Lauria has found success with his written works, having authored or co-authored such books as “Teach Yourself Rock Guitar,” “Learn to Burn on Rock Guitar,” “The Rock Riff Dictionary for Acoustic Guitar,” “The Rock Riff Dictionary for Rhythm Guitar,” “The Rock Riff Dictionary for Lead Guitar” and “Grab It,” to name a few.
Mr. Lauria has also composed music for films, including the documentaries“Man of a Thousand Faces” in 2008 and “Pigweed Philosopher: The Untethered Zen of Kimball Johnson” in 2008 as well as the independent musical “Nowhere Fast: The Forgotten Story of Approach Control” in 2013. A former panelist and Masterclass artist with the 2007 Park City Film Music Festival, he has notably collaborated with Denny Laine of The Moody Blues, David Marks of The Beach Boys, Dan Ferguson of Steely Dan, Donnie Vie of Enuff Z’Nuff, the DJ Fergie and even Academy Award-winning actor Timothy Hutton. Recruited as a composer and performer for the “Made in the Shade” jeans commercial campaign at Davlen Sound Studios between 1978 and 1982, Mr. Lauria fondly recalls having one of his songs performed with an orchestra at Las Vegas’ renowned Smith Center for the Performing Arts.
Attributing his success to his passion for music, his desire to improve and his ability to ignore negativity, Mr. Lauria was presented with a Clio Award, a Gold Medal for Best Impact of Music in a Documentary at Park City Film Music Festival in 2008 and the Director’s Choice Gold Medal for Excellence for Original Score at the Park City Film Music Festival in 2009. Furthermore, his blog was recognized among the Top 50 Music Blogs in the World by Harvard University and University of Cambridge. Among his many professional achievements, he is proud to have witnessed his students thrive as musicians, including Chris of the band SoloRio, and the band Playa del Roy. In the coming years, Mr. Lauria hopes to dedicate more time to helping orphans and children living with pediatric cancer while focusing on contributing his music library to a major publisher and promoting his pop-rock album that he has composed alongside Neil Middleton.
