Now retired, Ms. Naughton has been recognized as a professor emerita of art at the University of Hawaii’s Kapi’olani Community College since 2003. Rising through the ranks, she began her tenure on campus in 1985 as an assistant professor and later became an associate professor in 1994. As an artist, Ms. Naughton has focused primarily on painting. She excels in creating various types of landscapes, trees, and other backgrounds, as well as paintings that involve light. Her portfolio of works also includes a vintage collection of paintings, intaglio prints and drawings from the 1970s and 1980s. Ms. Naughton has held numerous one-woman shows throughout her career in Hawaii.

Ms. Naughton was afforded the opportunity to serve as an artist-in-residence at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in 2016. Highly educated, Ms. Naughton received a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Education and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Hawaii in 1967, 1974 and 1979, respectively. In addition to her degrees, she completed graduate coursework in drawing, painting and sculpture at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture in New York City, as well as postgraduate work in drawing and painting at the International School of Art in Umbria, Italy.

Ms. Naughton remains affiliated with several industry and community-related organizations, including the College Art Association of America Inc., the University of Hawaii Professional Assembly and the Foundations in Art Theory and Education. Her extensive knowledge of the curriculum was pivotal to her success. Ms. Naughton was also lauded for establishing the first course articulation agreement on campus.

In light of her success in education and art, Ms. Naughton was recognized with a Regents Medal for Excellence in Teaching from the University of Hawaii Board of Regents in 1994 and a Purchase Award from the Honolulu Museum in 1996. She credits much of her success to her passion for the arts, which her father initiated.  In the coming years, Ms. Naughton aims to continue concentrating on her artistic career while remaining active with students, colleagues and other artists.
