Emile Levisetti, director, producer and script doctor at Bushwacker Productions, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in entertainment and media.
Dating back to the ’90s, Mr. Levisetti’s journey in entertainment began like many classic Hollywood tales: He was a struggling actor, working as a waiter and cook in Chicago while taking on roles in commercials and small theater productions. His breakout film role came in 1991 in the Italian production “Bix,” which was an official selection at that year’s Cannes Film Festival. Following that, Mr. Levisetti moved to Los Angeles and built a career from consistent roles in low-budget independent films.
As he approached his 30s, Mr. Levisetti shifted away from acting and toward more fulfilling roles behind the scenes. For more than 20 years, he has operated Bushwacker Productions, an organization through which he aids in production, development, directing, and script doctoring for television shows. After one year as the director of comedy development for Columbia Pictures Television at Sony Pictures Entertainment, Mr. Levisetti joined 20th Century Fox Television as the vice president of comedy development and current production. During his time with 20th Century Fox, he contributed to such popular television series as “King of the Hill,” “Titus,” “Family Guy,” and “Dharma & Greg.”
From 2000 to 2004, Mr. Levisetti served as the head of production for Industry Entertainment, where he developed and sold approximately 10 television show concepts per year. Six of his concepts were picked up for pilots, and four were turned into full series orders. Most notably, Mr. Levisetti collaborated with writer Joanna Johnson to create “Hope & Faith,” going on to produce 76 episodes of the show. He estimates that he developed 150 hours of television across eight years in independent production.
Further showcasing his expertise in the world of television, Mr. Levisetti has stepped into the position of director in recent years. He has been behind the camera for episodes of such shows as “Army Wives,” “Lie to Me,” “FBI,” and “Castle.” Most recently, Mr. Levisetti has accepted directorial duties for the popular legal drama “Suits” and its spin-off, “Suits: LA.” He specializes in working closely with writers, improving scripts and taking part in every level of production to ensure that the narrative is successfully translated to the screen.
Mr. Levisetti’s success has been supported by his academic history and his affiliation with numerous industry-related organizations. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in the English language and literature from Cornell University in 1987. Mr. Levisetti was formerly a member of the Producers Guild of America and maintains current membership with the Directors Guild of America. He credits his success to traits inherited from his parents; his father is a well-regarded physicist who worked with Enrico Fermi, and his mother is a sculptor, painter and psychotherapist. Together, they instilled in him the capacity to blend logical and creative thinking, which has proven essential to his work as a producer and director.
Beyond his professional life, Mr. Levisetti enjoys taking in the outdoors, reading, spending time with his two dogs and exercising. He keeps in shape by mountain biking, swimming, skiing, fitness training, and participating in triathlons and half Ironman events. Moving forward, Mr. Levisetti intends to continue pursuing his passion for directing. Additionally, he recognizes that Hollywood is in a phase of disruption and reinvention. As such, Mr. Levisetti is also actively searching for new opportunities in the entertainment space, especially after moving from Los Angeles to Utah. He is excited to begin the next stage of his life and tackle fulfilling new projects.
