Before pivoting into business ownership with the establishment of A Left Handed View, Mr. Asaro was a successful architect, serving as a senior associate and department head of the architectural department at SMMA in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from 2000 to 2016. During this period, he managed complex architectural projects and demonstrated exceptional leadership in project delivery. He also played a pivotal role in designing solutions for laboratory clients and successfully defended his company through factual scientific analysis related to contracts and responsibilities. Mr. Asaro’s work on a law firm project in Los Angeles stands out as another notable accomplishment.
Between 1996 and 2000, Mr. Asaro excelled as the director of interior architecture at DTS Shaw Associates (now Perkins&Will). In this position, he led teams responsible for innovative interior design solutions for clients. From 1985 to 1989, Mr. Asaro served as the vice president at CRSS Inc., where he oversaw major architectural initiatives and contributed to the firm’s strategic direction.
Mr. Asaro began his career in architecture in 1980 as the director of production and field services at Environmental Planning and Research. Over the course of five years, he gained extensive experience, laying the groundwork for his later achievements in architectural management. In addition to his architectural and art career, Mr. Asaro has become an accomplished musician, further demonstrating his versatility and creative drive.
In preparation for his future, Mr. Asaro earned an Associate of Science in architectural engineering technology from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1969 and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Miami in 1973. His early interest in photography during college influenced both his professional trajectory as an architect and his later artistic pursuits.
Mr. Asaro’s professional affiliations have included membership in various organizations. He also contributed to multiple building technology committees within ASTM International and maintains involvement with different arts organizations. Mr. Asaro’s civic engagement is reflected in his support for the National Audubon Society and his ongoing volunteer fundraising efforts for 91.9 FM WUMB Boston at the University of Massachusetts, which he has been involved in since 2012.
As an artist, Mr. Asaro has participated in several notable projects and exhibitions. He has also self-published several works as an author, such as “When You Can’t Afford to Pay Attention” and “Yard Works.” Highlighting his contributions to the art world, he has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including First Place for “Foggy Harbor Morning” at Duxbury Art Association’s Summer Show in 2022, Second Place for “Angel Oak” at Duxbury Art Association’s Annual Winter Juried Show in 2023, and the Ros Farbush Memorial Award for Color at the North River Arts Association’s Festival of the Arts for “Next Time Use A Dropcloth” in 2024. Moreover, Mr. Asaro received recognition from his alma mater, Wentworth Institute of Technology, with an Honorary Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture.
Dedicated to expanding the recognition of his artwork by entering competitions beyond Massachusetts, Mr. Asaro has already been published nationally. He aspires to continue broadening the reach of his art while exploring new topics, such as writing about the science behind doodling and specifically how cognitive processes interact with manual skills to produce visual art.
