Since 2009, he has served as a contemporary artist operating through his eponymous firm, where he is recognized for his innovative approach to painting and drawing, as well as for creating large-scale works. Mr. Hawkins’s practice is distinguished by the use of metals, glass, resin and other durable materials, reflecting a commitment to both artistic vision and technical excellence.

Having maintained an active role as an artist at Phil Hawkins since 2005, Mr. Hawkins has continually expanded his creative repertoire, exploring new mediums and techniques that have contributed to his reputation for originality within the field and contemporary artistry.

In addition to his commitments as an entrepreneur, Mr. Hawkins spent several years as a mold maker, casting specialist and fabricator at Bruning Sculpture Inc., based in Omaha, Nebraska, from 2013 to 2017. In this capacity, he honed his skills in three-dimensional art forms and fabrication processes, further enhancing his ability to execute complex projects with precision and artistry.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Hawkins completed an internship at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha in 2008. The opportunity ignited Mr. Hawkins’s passion for contemporary art and inspired him to pursue it as a lifelong vocation.

Shortly after finishing his internship, Mr. Hawkins earned a bachelor’s degree in fine and studio arts management from Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska, in 2009. Earlier, he obtained an associate degree in graphic design from Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2004. Reflecting on his success, Mr. Hawkins recalls a pivotal moment in his career in 2015 when he launched a jewelry line inspired by his large-scale works. Recognizing the potential for broader exposure, he approached The Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha about featuring his pieces in their gift shop, which is known for showcasing original art, clothing and jewelry. The museum agreed to display Mr. Hawkins’s collection in glass cases, resulting in sales and valuable connections that opened new avenues for his creative output.
