Alec Halstead, Owner at BestPhotosByAlec, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements and leadership in Photography.

Mr. Halstead has established a distinguished career marked by adaptability, leadership and creative achievement. A few years ago, he established BestPhotosByAlec, a photography business that has flourished under his direction. Through his Etsy store, Mr. Halstead’s work has reached a broad audience, earning recognition for its artistic quality and commercial success. As a photographer, he has also held two gallery shows, one at the Bannerman Gallery and another at the Howland Cultural Center, both located in Beacon, New York. His frequent photographic studies of Bannerman’s Island on the Hudson River have become a signature element of his portfolio.

Before focusing exclusively on photography, Mr. Halstead built a robust career as a skilled mechanic. He spent several years on the power plant staff at Con Edison in New York City, where he applied his technical expertise to maintain critical infrastructure. Before joining Con Edison, Mr. Halstead contributed his skills in a government contract position.

Mr. Halstead’s professional journey began with an extensive military career spanning more than two decades. He served as a jet engine mechanic with the New York Air National Guard for 10 years, demonstrating exceptional technical proficiency and leadership. During this period, he achieved the rank of chief petty officer at age 27, a milestone he considers among his proudest accomplishments. Mr. Halstead’s leadership was further exemplified during a critical mission in Sicily, where he coordinated the replacement of an engine on a C5 aircraft that had lost all its oil mid-flight. Under challenging circumstances, he managed the operation efficiently, ensuring the aircraft was repaired and returned to the United States within 24 hours.

In addition to his tenure with the New York Air National Guard, Mr. Halstead’s military service included two years with the U.S. Army and 10 years with the U.S. Navy. It was during his naval tenure that his talent for photography was first recognized, when his ship’s captain appointed him as the command photographer after noticing the quality of his images.

Mr. Halstead’s educational background included a certificate from the New York Institute of Photography. He also completed coursework at both the Sergio Melli Institute of Photography and Craig Alexander Academy, where he is also an active member. Through these memberships, Mr. Halstead continues to refine his craft and participate in annual trips with fellow photographers. Additionally, Mr. Halstead is affiliated with Veterans of Foreign Wars, a testament to his dedication to supporting fellow veterans.

Mr. Halstead’s professional photography achievements have been recognized with inclusion in several magazines and newspapers. His service in the military also garnered him several honors, including a U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal, several U.S. Air Force Appreciation Medals, a Southeast Asia Service Ribbon and a Kuwait Liberation Medal. Throughout his career and personal life, Mr. Halstead has demonstrated unwavering perseverance and commitment to every endeavor he undertakes. He credits these qualities, along with the support of mentors and colleagues, for motivating others to follow his lead during critical moments.

The foundation for Mr. Halstead’s success can be traced to formative experiences during childhood and adolescence. Inspired by a camping trip to Wellesley Island in the Thousand Islands region, where he captured an image of a tanker with his father’s Kodak camera, he developed an early passion for photography, nurtured by a high school physics teacher who led a photography seminar.

Eager for the future, Mr. Halstead remains dedicated to growing his Etsy store and advancing his creative pursuits while appreciating the fulfillment that comes from hard work and his partnership with his wife, Lena. An avid traveler, he and his wife purchased a recreational vehicle and have plans to visit all 50 states and regions across Canada while capturing photographs that reflect their journeys. Mr. Halstead intends to discover many new places while continuing to participate in shows and exhibitions and accompanying Craig Alexander on additional photographic expeditions. His life reflects resilience, creativity and leadership, qualities that continue to define both his professional achievements and personal aspirations.
