Eleanor Canova-Davis, Ph.D., Director of Early Stage Analytical Development at Genentech, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in analytical biochemistry.
Interested in biology and chemistry from a formative age, Dr. Canova-Davis pursued formal education at San Francisco State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science in 1968 and 1971, respectively. Thereafter, she received a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of California, San Francisco, in 1977, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship through the National Institutes of Health and the University of California, Berkeley, from 1977 to 1980. During her academic studies, she served as first a laboratory assistant for the Frederick Burk Foundation for Education from 1969 to 1971, as well as a research teaching assistant at the University of California, San Francisco, from 1972 to 1977.
From 1980 to 1984, Dr. Canova-Davis served the University of California, San Francisco, as an assistant research biochemist, following this appointment with a position as a senior scientist at Liposome Technology from 1984 to 1985. Beginning in 1985, she has worked for Genentech, Inc., as a scientist, senior scientist, director of bioanalytical research and development, and director of early stage analytical development, the latter role being held for 14 years between 2004 and 2018. In her most current position, she analyzed products to ensure that the proper amino acids were in the right order for the product in an effort to maximize benefits for consumers.
A contributor of myriad articles to peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Canova-Davis attributes her success to her dedication, tenacity,persistence and passion for her chosen industry. She has maintained affiliation with several organizations to remain abreast of developments within the field,including the American Chemical Society, the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, and the California Scholarship Federation.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the chemical industry, Dr. Canova-Davis has received numerous accolades. The recipient of the National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Health, she also received a grant and fellowship from the University of California, San Francisco, in the formative years of her career. As an undergraduate student, she additionally received the Honors Convocation Award from San Francisco State University. Notably, she has been highlighted in the 19th edition of Who’s Who of American Women and the 54th edition of Who’s Who in America, as well as multiple editions of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Who’s Who in the West.
