As the founder of NeuroMusicNotes Media, she has embarked on a mission to empower parents and caregivers with resources that integrate music into early childhood education. Through her company, Dr. Bader focuses on an easy-to-use, at-home program that she designed for parents and caregivers to teach their children, ages zero to five, the joy of making music.
This venture follows the publication of her book, “Music for the Developing Brain: A Simple, At-Home Program,” which distills her research into practical guidance for enhancing brain development in young children through making music. Published in 2024 by NeuroMusicNotes Media and available on Amazon.com, “Music for the Developing Brain” is a 172-page book containing everything readers need to know about teaching children the importance of music and powerful teaching approaches.
Dr. Bader’s professional journey began in the medical field as a medical technologist from 1975 to 1986. During this time, she honed her skills in laboratory settings, where precision and attention to detail were paramount. Dr. Bader’s work at a blood bank in Alaska was also particularly impactful, as she played a crucial role in saving lives. These experiences underscored her commitment to health care and laid the foundation for her later endeavors.
In addition to her scientific pursuits, Dr. Bader has cultivated a successful career in music education and composition. She served as an adjunct faculty member of Southern Wesleyan University at the Columbia, South Carolina, campus from 2003 to 2006, sharing her expertise in music with students in the Adult and Graduate Studies program.
Dr. Bader’s academic achievements have been instrumental in shaping her multifaceted career. Her educational journey began with a bachelor’s degree in cell biology from the University of South Carolina in 1972, complemented by a certificate in medical technology from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1974. Subsequently, Dr. Bader earned a master’s degree in music and piano pedagogy in 1991 and a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano pedagogy in 2001 from the University of South Carolina.
Apart from her primary career goals, Dr. Bader’s contributions to the field have been recognized through her membership in esteemed organizations, including the South Carolina Music Teachers Association, the Columbia Music Teachers Association and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.
Active civically, Dr. Bader has served on the boards of the Columbia Music Teachers Association and HIS International Inc. She has also been an active member of composer, arranger and performer for churches in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Texas, and Alaska. Her contributions to these organizations reflect her commitment to community engagement and support for fellow educators.
Taking immense satisfaction in having homeschooled their daughter until college, Dr. Bader and her husband crafted and implemented a curriculum that emphasized experiential learning and catered to their daughter’s unique strengths and abilities. This dedication to education has since been mirrored in her professional life, where she continues to advocate for music as a tool for cognitive development.
Looking ahead, Dr. Bader aims to expand the reach of her book and inspire more families to explore the benefits of music study. She plans to provide coaching as well as to conduct workshops and speaking events that highlight how musical activities can strengthen familial bonds and provide opportunities for scholarships. Additionally, Dr. Bader is eager to collaborate with experts in neuroscience and music education to further research the impact of music on brain development, making this knowledge accessible to parents and music teachers worldwide.
