Damon Hyldreth, Sculptor at DamonArt.com, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements and leadership in Metal Sculpture.

Mr. Hyldreth has established himself in the art world as a talented and successful sculptor, earning recognition for his expertise in metal sculpture and his innovative approach to form and scale. For the past 20 years, he has served as a sculptor at DamonArt.com, where his responsibilities include submitting applications for significant projects, responding to invitations from collectors and clients, managing communications, and creating small-scale handcrafted models from aluminum strips and pieces. Mr. Hyldreth’s creative process involves experimenting with form to discover unexpected designs, developing fixed models in steel from initial small models, and drawing patterns from these models to scale them up.

Working as a full-time professional sculptor since 2005, Mr. Hyldreth’s transition into this role marked a significant milestone in his artistic journey. After maintaining a website for a decade, he began receiving commissions and was approached by galleries, which led to larger-scale projects. Among his most notable achievements were the creation of two 15-foot sculptures in 2016 for a major apartment development in San Diego, California, where the works were installed in concrete niches along a prominent roadway. Another highlight of Mr. Hyldreth’s artistic career occurred in 2000 when he was commissioned by a German client with offices in Beijing to fabricate a sculpture in Wuhan, China. The project involved scaling up a 20-inch model to a 20-foot installation. Despite delays that extended the timeline by six months, the completion of this international commission stands out as a particularly memorable accomplishment.

Before dedicating himself fully to sculpture, Mr. Hyldreth laid a foundation in software engineering after relocating to Los Angeles, California, with his family. He completed an intensive eight-month programming boot camp and found that working as a software engineer complemented his artistic pursuits, providing the flexibility and energy he needed for his creative work. This balance continued until the dot-com crash in 2000 prompted him to refocus on art.

Mr. Hyldreth’s early experiences shaped his commitment to pursuing what once seemed impossible. While studying at The Ohio State University and working nights at a can factory, an exchange with an electrical engineer inspired him to follow his passion for sculpture despite perceived obstacles. At age 22, Mr. Hyldreth completed his first bronze cast sculpture, which was accepted into a notable Chicago gallery. This pivotal moment affirmed his dedication to art.

A graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute, Mr. Hyldreth received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture in 2004. This formal education significantly influenced the evolution of his work and provided new opportunities for growth as an artist. He also completed coursework in industrial and product design at both The Ohio State University and Illinois Institute of Technology, experiences that contributed technical skills and design sensibilities integral to his work.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Hyldreth is an active member of the International Sculpture Center and Pacific Rim Sculptors, organizations that foster collaboration and advancement within the field of sculpture. Civically engaged, he donates sculptures annually to auctions held by local San Francisco groups supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, reflecting his commitment to giving back through art.

Mr. Hyldreth attributes his success to flexibility and a willingness to adapt. These qualities have enabled him to navigate changes within the art world and broader professional landscape. Looking ahead, he intends to continue creating large public art installations that require collaboration and site visits, while maintaining representation in multiple galleries for his smaller works.
