Dr. Jensen has found much success as an author, having previously garnered nearly 50 years of experience in the sciences marked by significant contributions to clinical chemistry, medical and veterinary diagnostics, and scientific research. The primary publisher behind Jensen Craft Enterprises Inc., through which she has likewise excelled as an author, genealogy researcher, biochemist, president, and co-founder since 1998, she has personally supervised the development and publication of several research volumes in her field. Her leadership at Jensen Craft Enterprises Inc. reflects her commitment to advancing knowledge in her areas of expertise while fostering innovation.
Currently working on the third volume of her published research, Dr. Jensen has had a longstanding history with her written works, having penned articles for scientific journals earlier in her career. In 1977, she contributed her wealth of knowledge as an author for “Cell Culture and Its Application.” Dr. Jensen subsequently provided her research for publication in “Practical Tissue Culture Applications” in 1979.
Greatly encouraged by her mother, Louise, a mathematics teacher who paused her doctoral studies following the onset of World War II, Dr. Jensen was likewise inspired by the experiences of her grandmother, who overcame adversity to attend college during a time when women were not expected to do so. She ultimately pursued a formal education of her own at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, from which she earned a Bachelor of Science. She later continued her studies with a Doctor of Philosophy at Cornell University in 1973. Ultimately, Dr. Jensen concluded her academic efforts at Babson College in 1983, graduating with a Master of Business Administration.
Over the course of her doctoral studies, Dr. Jensen began her career with the Instrumentation Laboratory in Lexington, Massachusetts, where she refined her skills as a senior scientist, project manager, reagent systems applications manager, senior research and development manager, and scientific support and applications manager for the clinical chemistry strategic business unit between 1972 and 1996. Soon thereafter, she served as a research and development manager at a startup company in Boston from 1996 to 1998, where she played a pivotal role in establishing research protocols and product pipelines. In addition to her work with Jensen Craft Enterprises, Dr. Jensen was active with IDEXX as a research scientist from 2001 to 2004, a research and development manager from 2004 to 2005, and the manager of clinical chemistry research and development for the veterinary unit from 2005 to 2012.
In addition to her corporate roles, Dr. Jensen was recruited as a member of the working group for the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards—now known as the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute—from 1995 to 1996. She was also appointed as the sub-communications adviser for the same committee in 1991. Beyond these responsibilities, she worked as a member of the adjunct faculty for the W. Alton Jones Cell Science Center from 1974 to 1976, a special reviewer for In Vitro from 1980 to 1981, and a proposal reviewer for the U.S. National Science Foundation from 1983 to 1986.
A celebrated expert in clinical chemistry with specialization in medical and veterinary diagnostics as well as clinical assay development, Dr. Jensen is lauded for her pioneering research on environmental control and cell culture conducted in both 1988 and 2003. She holds two patents related to her work in clinical assay reagents across general chemistry, immunochemistry and coagulation fields, along with instrument-reagent analytical systems that have advanced human and veterinary medicine. Among her most significant professional milestones is achieving a high-level corporate position that required direct reporting to executive leadership—a rare accomplishment for women during that era.
Regarded as a pioneer for women in the corporate sector, Dr. Jensen’s excellence has been recognized with a grant from the World Health Organization during the years 1980 to 1981. Throughout her career, she has been affiliated with the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, the American Chemical Society, the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, the American Philatelic Society, the Pilgrim Edward Doty Society and Beta Gamma Sigma. Beyond her primary endeavors, Dr. Jensen has supported her community through music ministry. She had performed as both organist and pianist at Island Pond Baptist Church in Hampstead between 1985 and 2017 and continues to substitute in either post as needed.
Dr. Jensen credits her family traditions of perseverance and academic pursuit as foundational motivators throughout her life. Over the course of her career, she has learned that managing people presents different challenges than managing research—a lesson she associates with being left-brain-oriented as a scientist. Looking toward the future, Dr. Jensen is committed to leaving a legacy defined by determination and achievement within corporate America during a period when opportunities for women were limited—choosing action over advocacy movements by focusing on what needed to be accomplished.
