Dr. Munkeby has enjoyed a diverse, rewarding career spanning more than four decades, marked by progressive leadership and a commitment to advancing technology, education and entrepreneurship. Since 2024, he has served as an author, educator and founder of NextGen Publications LLC in Cumming, Georgia. In this capacity, Dr. Munkeby has written over 15 books that focus on empowering individuals to leverage generative artificial intelligence for success in work, life and learning.
As a writer, Dr. Munkeby has produced an extensive body of work focused on artificial intelligence applications for diverse audiences. Notable titles include authoring “Synthesizing Truth: How AI Helps Us Build Personal Understanding of a Divided World,” “Beyond Google: How to Perform Research Using Generative AI,” and “From Camouflage to Corporate: Breaking the Code of Military Transition Using Generative AI.” He also co-authored “Faculty in the AI Era – Rethinking Teaching, Supervision, and Academic Integrity” and “Qualitative Capstone Project Mastery – Navigating the Depths of the Logical Developmental Sequence with Generative AI” with Dr. Barb Turner and “Developing Life Thinking Skills: From Grade School to Business Professionals” with Marti Elliott. Dr. Munkeby’s “AI Made Simple – Empowering Life After 55” series covers topics such as communication, cognitive training, personal development, financial management and companionship.
Before his current work, Dr. Munkeby dedicated nearly two decades as an adjunct professor and part-time faculty member at five different universities between 2007 and 2024. During this period, he supervised more than 250 doctoral dissertations and capstone projects, demonstrating the highest standards of research integrity and academic ethics.
Dr. Munkeby began his career in 1981, developing a robust career in the aerospace industry for over 30 years. He held numerous notable positions, including software engineer, where he contributed to the Space Shuttle program, software manager, where he oversaw earth observing spacecraft projects, and program manager, where he had direct oversight of robotic and unmanned ground vehicle initiatives. These roles required extensive experience in high-technology systems, business development projects and research and development for academia, federal government and industry clients. Dr. Munkeby reached the level of assistant vice president before retiring from the field in 2013.
Dr. Munkeby’s technical expertise has encompassed the entire systems and software life cycle, including hardware and software assembly, integration and testing of complex systems. He became well recognized for his ability to direct mid-sized to large teams, organize development processes, manage budgets and schedules, and foster collaboration across multiple program integrated product teams.
Having developed a passion for technology during childhood, Dr. Munkeby witnessed the moon landing on television at age 14. This formative moment ignited his love for mathematics and science, ultimately guiding him toward the aerospace industry, where he contributed to groundbreaking projects involving robotic vehicles.
Beyond these ventures, Dr. Munkeby’s professional journey included entrepreneurial ventures as the former owner of a dance company and a disc jockey business. Most notably, he served his country, beginning as a second lieutenant infantry officer in the U.S. Army in 1977, followed by a promotion to first lieutenant in 1979 and captain in 1981. Dr. Munkeby continued his service as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army Ready Reserve until 1983.
Highly educated, Dr. Munkeby earned a Bachelor of Science in computer science from the University of Montana in 1977, a Master of Science in systems management from the University of Southern California in 1983, and a Doctor of Management in organizational leadership from the University of Phoenix in 2007.
Active civically, Dr. Munkeby was a volunteer coach for his son’s soccer team for 10 years. As a veteran, he maintains membership in his local American Legion. Dr. Munkeby’s professional success has been recognized with honors such as Faculty of the Year at Colorado Technical University in 2017. He attributes his success to maintaining exceptionally high standards for himself and his teams. Early experiences also taught him the importance of communication, empathy and relationship-building, which have become essential skills and strengths throughout his career.
After retiring from aerospace and academia, Dr. Munkeby shifted focus toward making artificial intelligence accessible and practical for everyday life through writing and education. Looking ahead, he aims to expand NextGen Publications LLC by increasing book publication output while assisting others in publishing their own work.
